Nature and Scope of Risks
LunchLAB takes place at school with teachers and a chef-in-residence. LunchLAB has limited risk, including, cutting and preparing food, consuming food and beverages, spills or burns, loss or damage of personal property; injury; illness; or death. Accidents can be the result of the nature of the activity and can occur without any fault on the part of the students, LunchLAB, Growing Chefs, Fresh Roots, the VSB or its directors, officers, employees, contracted agents or volunteers.
LunchLAB occurs in the kitchen at Lord Roberts and Total Education. This is a permitted kitchen through Vancouver Coastal Health. LunchLAB and/or school staff are trained and have Standard First Aid, CPR certification or better. A basic first aid kit is available at the kitchen site and will be carried by a staff member during any trips off site. Note that LunchLAB staff are not registered practitioners and do not possess specialized training for diabetes, epilepsy or other serious conditions.
LunchLAB staff are trained chefs and have Food Safe 1 or better to help ensure that all food handling is safe and meets food guidelines.
In the event of an emergency, the school will ensure that all emergency procedures are to be taken into account.
Staff may also secure transportation to a hospital or to other medical personnel where necessary. Parents/guardians will be responsible for the costs and expenses associated with any medical treatment required for their child.
We know that many students have different dietary restrictions, allergies, and needs. While we are not able to accommodate specific dietary requirements, allergies, or requests, every LunchLAB will serve a vegetarian option and use low-risk allergenic foods. Your student will choose from a salad bar with multiple veggies, pickles, and toppings, as well as from one or two hot entrees. If they have a veggie that they do not like or are allergic to, they can avoid choosing that option. However, some mixing of items is to be expected. If your child/student has specific dietary restrictions or allergies, this program may not be the best fit at this time. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate contact us.
By signing up, you are permitting your student to participate in LunchLAB and to eat lunch as provided to your child/student. LunchLAB will serve lunch on Mondays and Thursdays throughout your selected session. We strive to ensure the foods we provide are low risk for allergic reactions, however, meals will not be made specifically for your child/student to accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies.
LunchLAB occurs within the supervision of the teacher and school district at all times. If you see something that concerns you while you are at school, please bring this to the attention of the teacher at any time.
LunchLAB participants are expected to abide by the following LunchLAB guidelines:
treat other students, staff and volunteers with respect
treat animals, plants, and the land with care
follow all instructions from staff and volunteers
use precaution and safety when handling tools
report illness or accidents immediately to staff
Ensuring a safe learning environment is critical to LunchLAB. Repeated failure to adhere to these behavioural expectations may result in your child/student being asked to leave the program.
Missing A Day or Leaving the Program
LunchLAB happens on Mondays and Thursdays. By signing up, you are agreeing to participate for the entire semester as indicated.
Why the whole semester? It helps us plan ahead, reduce administrative costs, avoid unnecessary food waste, and keep the program running for years to come.
What happens if you miss a day? Unfortunately, we are not able to issue refunds for individual days. HOWEVER, we understand that LunchLAB is maybe not for your student or for you. If you decide at any time that you want to cancel, not a problem. Just let us know and we’ll cancel your orders and issue you a refund for the rest of the program.
This Agreement is intended to be broad and all-inclusive and will be governed according to the laws of British Columbia;
In the event that any clause or provision of this form is held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such clause or provision will not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this form, which shall continue to be enforceable.
